Tips for Designing your Christmas Cards

I know it may be early, but that time of year has come again to start thinking about getting your Christmas Cards in, as it’s always good to be organised and early, meaning it’s one less thing you have to worry about, especially if you have a big family!

However, instead of buying them this year, why not think about having your own designed? Here at kaizenprint.co.uk, we have a whole catalogue full of designs you can choose from, or alternatively you can submit your very own design, meaning your cards will be truly unique and personal. If that is the case, and something that you would be interested in doing, why not read on to find out some of our top tips on designing your own Christmas Cards, so that they really stand out from the rest, and make sure to provide family and friends with cherished memories over the holidays.

Font

Most of the time, the main feature of any card, whether it is a christmas card, a birthday card or an anniversary card is what they say. It’s your chance to write to people and tell them that you’re thinking of them at this special time, and more often than not, even though you can just say all of this, it often feels a little more personal and meaningful, as people don’t receive cards everyday, unlike being spoken to. This is why it’s incredibly important that if you’re going to design your own Christmas Cards, that you choose a font that people can read. But be sure that it isn’t just a plain one however, as this may take away from the elegance and enchanted feel that you could give to your cards.

When choosing a font, look at the design that you have went for and work from there. Is it a winter wonderland design? Then why not go for something that looks magical, and flourishes? Or perhaps you have chosen to go for a quieter design, maybe showcasing the relaxed moments of Christmas, with log fires and snow outside? Then pick a font that symbolises this, perhaps choosing one that looks a little older, something that may have been used in days gone by? Whatever the design make sure that your font goes well with it, to ensure that your Christmas Card design is consistent right the way through.

Think about extra features

If you have decided this year that you would like to design your own Christmas Cards, why not think about going the extra mile and make them really stand out on family and friends mantle? One great way to do this, is by taking a look at what other design features may be on offer.

One such feature may be the option to add foiling to your Christmas Cards. This can and will look great, especially if you pick colours that scream Christmas. It helps to add something extra to your cards, but can also keep them looking clean and minimalist if you like. What is also great about this, is the fact that you could make them metallic if you wanted, meaning they can match even more with whatever design you have went with, and would be perfect if you are trying to achieve an enchanted and magical Christmas look.

One other feature that we love here at kaizenprint.co.uk, is embossing some of the design features, or perhaps some of the text that is on your Christmas Cards. This is perhaps a little more on show than adding the foiling to your cards, however certainly no less amazing to look at. It will help to make your cards really unique, and also shows that you have put a lot of effort and care into the designing of your cards, as you can pick and choose certain little parts that you want to be embossed over others.

Paper Stock

Here at kaizenprint.co.uk we print all of our Christmas Cards on 350gsm silk card, and we highly recommend that you do the same or something very similar. The reason we do this is simple; quality. We want our cards to be the best around, and one way to make sure this happens is through the use of top quality paper stock. When someone receives a card whether it is a christmas card or a birthday card, one of the worst things they can experience, is a flimsy card. A card that feels like it could tear apart as soon as they might open it. And we don’t want this to happen to you either, especially if you have put lots and lots of effort into the design of it. So make sure that when designing, before you even begin to put design to card, you choose the right card stock. Once you have that sorted, the sky really is the limit in terms of what you can do, and make your personalized and bespoke Christmas Cards that your loved ones will cherish forever.
