Making your Christmas Cards Instagram worthy

Nearly everybody likes a Christmas Card. Receiving one just heightens the feeling of Christmas, among the anticipation on whether there is something inside! Usually however, that’s where it all ends for the humble Christmas Card. They are set on the mantel or hung up around the living room and left there, until being taken down at the end of Christmas. But, what if it didn’t have to be? Why not get creative with your Christmas Card and keep your social media followers extra entertained throughout the holidays by posting pictures of them on Instagram?

However, they won’t just be any old pictures. No, not at all. These will be the best pictures of Christmas Cards anyone has ever seen! So read on to find out our top tips on how to make your Christmas Cards and settings, Instagram Worthy.

Make Use of Props

A Golden Rule when taking nearly Instagram picture, is to have other objects within it, that aren’t quite the main focus, but can be in the background to really emphasize the main subject. The exact same goes for Christmas Cards. However, make sure that whatever props you do use go with the theme. You wouldn’t place a cocktail and palm tree beside a Christmas Card would you? Instead, what about using candles and some holly? Place these around the Christmas Cards, and with the right lighting, you’ll get a picture that gives off that winter’s night inside, spent around the fire. Another option could be to take the fun Christmas route, with the use of sweets and candy canes. For example why not have a spill of sweets and the cards laying on top of them?

These would be two great pictures, that are both in keeping with the theme of Christmas but also give off two different vibes.

Lighting Is Everything

Every great, and even every amature photographer knows that to take a great photograph the lighting has to be just right, as it can make your pictures pop, or it can wash them out. The exact same thing applies if you are planning on taking photographs of your Christmas Cards. As well as this however, it can also turn your Christmas Cards from giving off a cozy, night spent by the fire vibe, to having fun in the snow. Depending on what look you are going for, you’re going to want to make sure your light gives off a bit of colour as well. For example, if you want to give a warm glow to your pictures, try using a deeper colour of light, even if it’s just a standard bulb in your house! From there, a little bit of editing to darken it down and you have your warm glow in your photos. The same applies if you want to lighten them up a bit, simply change the lighting to perhaps an LED, and again with some editing, you have your lighter photographs.

Try Outside

A final way that you can really show your followers you have the knack for Instagram, is by being a little more adventurous with your photos, and one way to do this is by taking your photos, and ultimately your Christmas Cards, away from the house, and outside. If you’re feeling up to it, instead of going and buying props why not use what is around you? This would especially be a good idea if you lived near a forest park or even some gardens, as you are sure to catch some photo worthy wintery moments. As well as this however, from here you could also go about getting some more photos for christmas cards, possibly plan for next year?
