Over the past few weeks we have printed many different marketing items for businesses who are looking to capitalise on the Giro D’Italia event that takes place in Northern Ireland from 9th May - 11th May 2014. If you are not a keen cyclist you would be forgiven for not being aware of the Giro D’Italia, but for ease of this post the Giro D’Italia is an annual multiple stage bicycle race is primarily held in Italy and along with the Tour de France and Vuelta a España, the Giro makes up cycling’s prestigious, three week-long Grand Tours.  It is considered to be second only to the Tour de France in terms of prestige in the cycling world. The Grande Partenza or ‘Big Start’ of the Giro d’Italia will take place over three days from 9 - 11 May 2014 and involves routes in Belfast, around the stunning Causeway Coast and Armagh before finishing in Dublin. I imagine this is the first time this will be started from within Ireland and that is perhaps why the massive marketing push from Discover Northern Ireland due to the increase in tourism it will present over its 3 days here in May. Our clients are capitalising on the Giro D’Italia, by using the current hype and awareness around the country to promote their current offers and also to welcome those tourists to Belfast. Slims Kitchen on the Lisburn Road for example are introducing a special FLAVOUR 1 / FLAVOUR 2 Giro D’Italia special frozen yoghurt for the first two weeks of May to celebrate the event being held in Belfast. I also saw on Facebook this afternoon that Larne Borough Council have branded two of their vehicles in the classic Giro pink. Really cool! At the other end of the country, Armagh Cricket Club are breaking a 150 year old tradition to wear pink next month. The move is one of a series of steps being taken in the city to mark staging part of the Giro d'Italia cycle race. Other businesses who are on the main route of the event in Belfast are using the opportunity to “put a best foot forward” and bring their outdoor signage / marketing materials in line with their current marketing efforts. They are ready for the increased traffic before, during and after the event actually takes place. As a business, we will be focusing our efforts in assisting our clients on bringing their ideas to life. So if you are focused on the cycling or fitness markets and want to chat about opportunities for your business to use the Giro D’italia for your marketing efforts in May we would love to chat to you.
