monitor your competitors, but not too closely

Eyes to the front people. It’s good to know what and how your competition are operating, but don’t focus too much on them. If you are, then you’re not concentrating fully on your own business and this will detract from your own successes. In any business, when you are working to your best ability you will always see copy cat campaigns. Don’t get too annoyed by these, as it’s a sign that your competitors are focusing on you and not their own company. They won’t know all the elements you took to make it a success and only see the public facing front end of any campaign.
