Our main funding body, Northern Ireland Screen has informed us that the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL) plans to implement a 50% cut in their funding for 2015-16.  This funding is the bedrock of support for many of Northern Ireland’s best known lead film exhibition bodies including Belfast Film Festival, Queen’s Film Theatre, Nerve Centre, Cinemagic, Foyle Film Festival and INTO Film Club.  The proposed cuts will have a devastating impact on all the supported organisations and, if confirmed at this extreme level, could possibly mean that some of these organisations may cease to exist. The draft budget for 2015/16 is out now for public consultation and we have until the deadline of 29 December 2014, the only chance we have of stopping these cuts is to send a strong message. We need your support NOW… If you love film….  if you have had a great night at one of our special events; attended one of our premieres or local community events; been inspired by a visiting director/actor/writer;  if you just love the thrill of discovering new international films or gems from the archives;  or if you are proud of the achievements of our local talent, and the work of the Northern Ireland film culture and education organisations and want it to continue for years to come … http://belfastfilmfestival.org/savenifilm
